Strange Days
Calendars strewn across my bedroom’s floor
Forming a mosaic from the far wall to the door
The 2nd of September circled in red
My eyes are bloodshot as I lay on my bed
"How could this be," I asked myself, "Did it have to come so soon?"
I think back to that blissfilled afternoon
The bell rang right at 3:15
I dashed into my car and waited for the light to turn green
June jumpstarted summer right on time
At first I awoke to the sound of lovely wind chimes
No question about it, the summer had begun
Long hot days in the bright shining sun
Relaxing beside the pool
Sipping my coke and trying to stay cool
Picking posies for my mother
The thrill of helping the elderly can’t be matched by any other
July rolled on by, this was still fine
I had two months left so I didn’t mind
Pulling my cat’s teeth with a pair of pliers, She gave the most peculiar shout
Setting my dad’s hair on fire, As if enough hasn’t already fell out
Celebrating my nation’s independence has never been so much fun
When done with a fully automatic revovling handgun
August arrived but now what should I do?
School is in a month, the summer just flew
I must live life as fast as I can
Have no regrets and take it like a man
My friends and I started to stay out late
Went out and traveled to different states
Got into funny looking bars
Where there were people acting quite strange, near and far
Cowboys, pirates, sailors, and more
At midnight we learned they locked the door
The scary men came out and said, with such a might
"Want to danthe, thilly? Don’t worry we don’t bite"
Needless to say I never went back
I just went home and opened my backpack
Maybe school isn’t such a bad idea after all
It sure beats dancing with Julian at the disco hall
